A cell phone, also known as cell or just cell, hand phone or pocket phone, cell-to-cell, hand-held, portable phone or paging transmitter, sometimes shortened to just cell, can make and receive phone calls over a radio frequencies line while the user is traveling within a licensed phone service area. Cell phones are considered portable because they can be easily carried from place to place. Most people prefer to buy their cell phones online because they can easily get the best deals and discounts when buying a cell phone online. There are many companies which offer cell phones on attractive financing plans or through prepaid cards. They also provide the customer with free accessories such as earphones, chargers and memory cards which can be used to download music, games, ring tones and pictures.
The use of cell phones is increasing day by day. Almost all of the government departments and even of most of the private organizations use cell phones to communicate internally and externally. Cellular phones have become a fashion accessory to many of us. People love to use them because they are very functional and stylish and most of the times they are also very convenient to carry around.
There is a study conducted by the National Institute of Justice on two groups of people in New York City who were involved in a street crime that was being committed. It was found that there was an increased risk in the person who possessed a cell phones. This was despite the fact that he did not carry it around. The increase in risk can be explained only by the fact that there is an increased risk in the vicinity of the person who possesses a cell phones and he is in close contact with other criminal offenders. This study showed that this proximity is enough to increase the likelihood of carrying out a criminal activity. Thus it can be concluded that cell phones are not only dangerous but are also prone to increase the criminal's chances of performing crime.
A survey was conducted on a large sample of students in a college to find out whether there is an increased risk in students who have access to cellular phones at school. The results showed that the risk factor is highly dependent upon the place where the cell phones are used i.e. at school. The survey also indicates that when a person uses his cell phone in the presence of his parents and his friends, the risk factor increases even more. But the results of the survey do not support the view that the use of cell phones at home is completely safe as when a child at school is using the cell phone then there is an increased chance of the child getting into trouble.
The wireless mobile technology has emerged as the most promising technology with all the leading phone brands offering various mobile phone deals to the customers. The main reason behind this huge popularity of the cellular network technology is the increasing level of connectivity that it offers to the users. However, the customers should keep in mind that they should not use the mobile phone in a situation where they are not in a position to act accordingly. One should keep their hands free while they are performing various activities with their mobile phones such as checking their email, listening to music or taking pictures.
